The NPORS N108 MEWP BOOM course provides theory and practical instruction in preparing and using equipment in the mewp boom category safely. It covers equipment information, components, inspections, work-area checks, setup, operation, emergency arrangements and shutdown or dismantling.

Operators and operatives who use, or are preparing to use, equipment in the mewp boom category for work at height.

Learning outcomes
• Explain industry hazards, safe working responsibilities and communication requirements.
• Identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
• Complete pre-use checks in line with manufacturer instructions and site requirements.
• Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely on level or rough ground and inclines in open and confined areas.
• Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out accessing tasks.
• Travel with platform raised (where applicable).
• Complete safe shutdown, parking and securing procedures.
