Overview
A work-based NVQ for operators who prepare and use compacting plant to achieve the required material condition and finish.

Who this NVQ is for
Experienced ride-on roller, soil compactor or landfill compactor operators with access to suitable workplace tasks and evidence.

Learning outcomes
On completion, candidates will be able to:
• Work safely and productively and follow the compaction specification and method of work.
• Inspect the machine, safety systems and work area and report defects or unsuitable conditions.
• Prepare and operate the selected compacting plant while maintaining stability and safe separation.
• Use suitable passes, patterns and operating techniques for the material and site conditions.
• Monitor compaction quality and respond to changes in ground, weather or work requirements.
• Shut down, secure and record the condition of the machine after use.

Assessment
Workplace competence assessment and portfolio of evidence, using methods such as assessor observation, professional discussion, questioning, work products and suitable witness testimony. Internally assessed and quality assured by the centre, with external quality assurance by ProQual.
