Overview
A work-based NVQ for experienced operators who extract ground or loose materials with an approved machine in the pathway.

Who this NVQ is for
Experienced 180-degree or 360-degree excavator, tracked loading-shovel, crawler tractor/dozer and other approved extracting-plant operators.

Learning outcomes
On completion, candidates will be able to:
• Interpret the work requirement, material type, production target and site restrictions.
• Carry out pre-use and running checks and prepare the selected machine and attachment.
• Set up a safe working area with suitable stability, clearances and exclusion controls.
• Extract ground or loose material using controlled and efficient operating techniques.
• Load, place or stockpile material to the required location and quality.
• Shut down, secure and communicate defects, progress and changing conditions.

Assessment
Workplace competence assessment and portfolio of evidence, using methods such as assessor observation, professional discussion, questioning, work products and suitable witness testimony. Internally assessed and quality assured by the centre, with external quality assurance by ProQual.
