The CPCS A21 course develops safe, efficient wheeled loading shovel operation. It covers checks, travel, attachments, extraction, stockpile and ramp work, vehicle loading, levelling and shutdown.
Who this course suits
New or experienced operators who use a wheeled loading shovel for loading, extraction, stockpile or levelling work.
Learning outcomes
• Explain the operator’s responsibilities, work hazards, legislation and safe systems of work.
• Use manuals and information sources and identify the shovel’s components, controls, safety systems and limitations.
• Complete checks, minor adjustments, PPE selection, safe access and defect reporting.
• Travel and manoeuvre safely on site, including restricted areas and varied ground conditions.
• Select, fit and use buckets/attachments and site the machine for extraction and loading.
• Create and work with stockpiles and ramps, load vehicles and level ground to specified tolerances.
• Load/unload from a transporter where required and shut down securely.
