The CPCS A40A course covers slinging and signalling for all lifting-equipment types and duties. It develops skills in accessory inspection and selection, load assessment, slinging methods, signals, radio communication, load control and safe lift completion.

People who sling loads and direct lifting-equipment operators across all equipment types and static or pick-and-carry duties.

Learning outcomes
• Explain the slinger/signaller role, responsibilities, documentation, hazards and relevant lifting legislation.
• Recognise lifting equipment types, capacities, limitations and static or pick-and-carry duties applicable to the endorsement.
• Identify, inspect, maintain and store lifting accessories and place defective or uncertificated items out of service.
• Confirm load weights, dimensions and centres of gravity and select suitable lifting accessories and slinging methods.
• Attach and detach balanced, unbalanced, bundled and other specified loads safely.
• Use recognised hand signals and radio protocol and direct the lifting equipment operator.
• Control loads, maintain exclusion zones and complete lifting operations safely.
