The CPCS A62 course develops the skills needed to supervise lifting operations in line with an appointed person’s lift plan. It covers certification, equipment configuration, accessories, hazards, site preparation, team control, stopping the lift and reporting.

Supervisors responsible for preparing, briefing, monitoring and safely controlling planned lifting operations.

Learning outcomes
• Explain lifting legislation and the responsibilities and limits of the lifting team roles.
• Check lifting-equipment and accessory certification, examination, setup and configuration requirements.
• Recognise lifting accessories, sling arrangements, load weights and centres of gravity.
• Use and communicate the lift plan and confirm personnel, crane, load, accessory and landing-area requirements.
• Identify proximity, underground and environmental hazards and prepare access, egress and exclusion zones.
• Mark the lifting-equipment position and verify the equipment configuration and load-spreading arrangements against the plan.
• Control the lift without changing the appointed person’s plan, stop it when necessary and report/debrief afterwards.
