Overview
A work-based NVQ for operators who use approved plant to extract loose or ground materials safely and productively.

Who this NVQ is for
Experienced operators of relevant extracting plant, including wheeled loading shovels and other approved machines listed in the qualification pathway.

Learning outcomes
On completion, candidates will be able to:
• Follow workplace health, safety and productive-working requirements.
• Interpret work instructions, material requirements, exclusion zones and site constraints.
• Carry out pre-use and running checks and prepare the selected machine for work.
• Extract material using stable, controlled and efficient operating techniques.
• Place, stockpile or load material to the required location while protecting people and services.
• Shut down, secure and report machine or work-area defects.

Assessment
Workplace competence assessment and portfolio of evidence, using methods such as assessor observation, professional discussion, questioning, work products and suitable witness testimony. Internally assessed and quality assured by the centre, with external quality assurance by ProQual.
