Overview
A work-based NVQ for experienced operators who excavate ground using an approved excavator, crawler tractor/dozer or other machine in the pathway.
Who this NVQ is for
Experienced 180-degree or 360-degree excavator and crawler tractor/dozer operators whose real workplace role includes excavation.
Learning outcomes
On completion, candidates will be able to:
• Work safely and productively and interpret drawings, work instructions, line, level and depth requirements.
• Inspect and prepare the selected machine, attachments, safety systems and work area.
• Position the machine and maintain stability, clearances and protection of underground or overhead services.
• Excavate, shape and place material to the required dimensions and specification.
• Load, stockpile or spread material safely while coordinating with the work team.
• Complete checks, shut down, secure and report defects or variations.
Assessment
Workplace competence assessment and portfolio of evidence, using methods such as assessor observation, professional discussion, questioning, work products and suitable witness testimony. Internally assessed and quality assured by the centre, with external quality assurance by ProQual.
