Overview
A work-based NVQ for people who supervise lifting operations and implement an appointed person’s lift plan and safe system of work.

Who this NVQ is for
Experienced lifting supervisors responsible for briefings, site preparation, lifting teams, equipment checks and control of live lifting operations.

Learning outcomes
On completion, candidates will be able to:
• Review the lift plan, method statement, risk controls, responsibilities and communication arrangements.
• Coordinate site preparation, access, ground conditions, exclusion zones and interfaces with other work.
• Check the lifting equipment, accessories, documentation and personnel are suitable and ready.
• Brief the lifting team and maintain clear working relationships and authority during the operation.
• Supervise lifting activities, monitor compliance and stop work when conditions vary or become unsafe.
• Allocate resources, monitor performance, maintain dimensional accuracy and complete required records.

Assessment
Workplace competence assessment and portfolio of evidence, using methods such as assessor observation, professional discussion, questioning, work products and suitable witness testimony. Internally assessed and quality assured by the centre, with external quality assurance by ProQual.
