The NPORS N021 Suction Excavator course develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to inspect, prepare and use the suction excavator for its intended task. It covers components and controls, pre-use checks, work-area hazards, safe manoeuvring, operating tasks and shutdown procedures.

Who this course suits
Plant operators who use, or are preparing to use, equipment in the suction excavator category within construction, civil engineering, utilities, earthworks, agriculture or related workplaces.

Learning outcomes
• Explain suction-excavator hazards, operator responsibilities and operating limitations.
• Identify the main machine, compressor, hose, remote-control and safety components.
• Complete pre-use checks, select suitable PPE and confirm that the work area is safe.
• Position and configure the machine and demonstrate the emergency-stop procedure.
• Use the remote control and suction equipment to complete excavation tasks safely.
• Fit and remove attachments and deposit excavated material safely.
• Apply environmental controls and complete shutdown and securing procedures.
