The NPORS N116 Dragline course develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to inspect, prepare and use the dragline for its intended task. It covers components and controls, pre-use checks, work-area hazards, safe manoeuvring, operating tasks and shutdown procedures.

Plant operators who use, or are preparing to use, equipment in the dragline category within construction, civil engineering, utilities, earthworks, agriculture or related workplaces.

• Explain industry hazards, safe working responsibilities and communication requirements.
• Identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
• Conduct all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturer instructions and legal requirements.
• Prepare the dragline for travel or use and operate machinery safely and efficiently.
• Adjust the rope arrangement for different materials and working conditions.
• Store, load, unload and transport dragline and attachments safely.
• Complete end-of-work and shutdown procedures.
