The NPORS N241 Pay Welder course develops the knowledge and practical skills needed to inspect, prepare and use the pay welder for its intended task. It covers components and controls, pre-use checks, work-area hazards, safe manoeuvring, operating tasks and shutdown procedures.

Plant operators who use, or are preparing to use, equipment in the pay welder category within construction, civil engineering, utilities, earthworks, agriculture or related workplaces.
Learning outcomes
• Explain industry hazards, safe working responsibilities and communication requirements.
• Identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
• Complete pre-use checks in line with manufacturer instructions and site requirements.
• Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out welding tasks.
• Fit and remove lifting attachments.
• Carry out lifting operations.
• Complete safe shutdown, parking and securing procedures.
