The CPCS A10 course covers safe operation of a 180-degree excavator below 5 tonnes. Training focuses on machine checks, travel, siting, bucket and quick-hitch use, excavation, loading, grading and shutdown.

Learning outcomes
• Explain operator duties, construction hazards, legislation and safe working practices.
• Use the operator’s manual and identify major components, controls, warning systems and machine limitations.
• Complete checks, minor adjustments, PPE selection and safe cab access.
• Prepare, travel and site the 180-degree excavator safely for excavation, loading and grading.
• Fit and use suitable buckets and quick-hitch systems.
• Excavate, load and grade to given information and tolerances, then reinstate and shut down safely.
