CPCS A61 – Appointed Person: Lifting Operations

The CPCS A61 course develops the knowledge and planning skills needed by an appointed person for lifting operations. It covers legislation, equipment selection, duty charts, ground loading, accessories, hazards, lift plans, safe systems of work and team briefings.
Who this course suits
People appointed to plan and manage lifting operations and produce the required lift documentation.
Learning outcomes
• Explain lifting legislation, codes, lift classifications and the duties of the lifting team.
• Identify lifting equipment types, capabilities, limitations, configurations, safety systems and examination requirements.
• Extract and use technical specifications, duty charts and range diagrams and select suitable lifting equipment.
• Calculate point/outrigger loadings, ground support and spreader mat requirements.
• Select lifting accessories and calculate sling capacities, lengths and angles for the load and centre of gravity.
• Choose communications and identify proximity, underground, access, weather, fatigue and external hazards.
• Produce a safe system of work comprising risk assessment, method statement, lift plan and drawings.
• Brief the lifting team and define equipment positioning, exclusion zones, contingencies and reporting arrangements.
CITB Grant Eligible
This course may be eligible for CITB grant support where the employer is registered with CITB and meets the current eligibility requirements. The course is not automatically funded, and customers should confirm their eligibility and any available grant directly with CITB or their employer before booking.
