Who Are CPCS Courses For?

CPCS is aimed squarely at plant operators working on construction sites. If you are looking at work with a major contractor, on a large infrastructure job, or anywhere the site rules name CPCS specifically, this is the route to take. Plenty of employers will accept either scheme, but the ones that insist on CPCS tend not to budge, so it is worth checking before you book anything.

Beginners start with the health, safety and environment test, then the CPCS theory and practical tests for their category. Pass those and you get the red Trained Operator card, which is valid for two years. From there you build up experience on site and complete the relevant NVQ, which takes you up to the blue Competent Operator card and five years of validity.
